Jesus as a Boy

Jesus grew up in the town of Nazareth with Mary and Joseph, becoming strong in spirit and filled with wisdom. Every year, His family traveled to Jerusalem for the Feast of the Passover; however, when Jesus was twelve, He stayed behind in the city while His parents began the journey home, assuming He was with relatives. After a frantic three-day search, Mary and Joseph found Him in the temple, where He was sitting among teachers who were amazed by His understanding and questions. When questioned by His worried parents, Jesus explained that He had to be in His Father’s house, yet He returned to Nazareth and lived obediently with them, continuing to grow in favor with God and people.
