John the Baptist

Born to Zacharias and Elizabeth as a miracle, John the Baptist was given the special mission of preparing God’s people for the arrival of the Savior, Jesus. Living in the wilderness and wearing humble clothes, he preached to crowds about turning from sin and symbolize this change through water baptism. John clarified that he was not the Christ but was there to point toward the one who would baptize with the Holy Spirit. When John baptized Jesus, he saw the Holy Spirit descend like a dove and heard God’s voice declare Jesus as His beloved Son, confirming His divine identity.
